Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information the LyricGlow Android app ("the app", "we", "us") accesses, why, and how it is handled. We built LyricGlow to be private by default: no advertising, and no analytics or tracking SDKs. Every core lyric feature works without an account. A few optional features — signing in with Google, local weather, and the photo widget — access additional data only when you choose to enable them, as described below.
1. What the app accesses
- Currently-playing media metadata. To show synced lyrics, the app reads the title and artist of the media currently playing on your device, via Android's notification/media-session access. It does not read the content of your other notifications.
- Lyric lookups. The song title and artist are sent to our lyrics service to retrieve matching synced lyrics.
- On-device preferences. Your settings (e.g. brightness, lyric-sync offset, layout and theme) and a local cache of fetched lyrics are stored only on your device.
- Account details (optional — only if you sign in). If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your email address, display name, and Google account ID. See section 6.
- Approximate location (optional — only for weather). If you turn on the weather widget's "use my location" option, your approximate location is used to fetch local weather. See section 7.
- Photos (optional — only for the photo widget). If you add the photo widget, the app reads the image(s) you pick so it can display them. They stay on your device. See section 8.
2. What we do not collect
We do not show advertising, and we do not use any third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not collect your contacts, files, advertising ID, or the contents of your other notifications. We only ever access your account details, location, or photos in the specific optional cases described in this policy, and only after you choose to enable that feature.
3. Permissions and why they're used
- Notification access — used solely to detect the song title and artist of the media you're playing. It is not used to read, store, or transmit any other notifications.
- Display over other apps — used to show the full-screen lyric view on your lock screen / Always-On Display.
- Post notifications — used to show the optional lyric notification.
- Internet — used to fetch lyrics, retrieve weather (if enabled), and complete sign-in (if you use it).
- Approximate location (optional) — requested only if you turn on "use my location" in the weather widget, so it can show weather near you. Deny it and you can search for a place name manually instead.
- Photos / media images (optional) — requested only when you add the photo widget, so it can display the images you select. Images are never uploaded.
4. How lyric lookups work
When a new song is detected, the app sends its title and artist to our backend, which returns matching synced lyrics. To improve speed and reduce repeat requests, the backend may cache the mapping of a song title/artist to its lyrics. Like any web service, our servers may keep transient technical logs (such as IP address) for security and reliability, which are not used to profile or identify you.
5. Third-party lyric sources
Lyrics are sourced from third-party providers (for example, community lyric databases). We do not control those services; only a song's title and artist are used to query them. LyricGlow is not affiliated with any music streaming service.
6. Sign in with Google
Signing in is optional — every core lyric feature works without an account. We offer Sign in with Google for one purpose: to grant early users free access to premium features. When you choose to sign in:
- We receive your email address, display name, and Google account ID (a stable identifier Google provides) from Google's Sign in with Google service.
- This information is sent to and stored on our server to record that your account is an early/legacy user, so you keep premium features free — including on any device where you later sign in with the same Google account.
- We do not receive your Google password, and we do not access your Gmail, contacts, Drive, photos, or any other Google data.
You can sign out at any time in the app's settings. To request deletion of your stored account data, email parthahere001@gmail.com (see section 9).
7. Location & weather
The optional weather widget can show weather for your current location. If you enable this, the app uses your device's approximate (coarse) location to look up the local forecast from Open-Meteo, a third-party weather provider. Your approximate coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo solely to return the forecast; we do not store your location on our servers. If you deny location access, you can search for a place name manually instead. You can remove the weather widget at any time.
8. Photos
The optional photo widget displays images you choose on your lock screen / Always-On Display. If you add it, the app requests permission to read images so it can show the photo(s) or album you select. These images are read and displayed only on your device — they are never uploaded to us or any third party. You can remove the widget or revoke the permission at any time in your device settings.
9. Data retention
On-device preferences and cached lyrics remain until you clear the app's data or uninstall it. Server-side lyric caches store song-to-lyrics mappings, not personal data. If you sign in, your account record (email, display name, Google account ID) is retained on our server until you ask us to delete it — email parthahere001@gmail.com to request deletion. You can clear all local data at any time via your device's app settings.
10. Security
Network requests between the app and our backend are made over encrypted HTTPS connections.
11. Children's privacy
LyricGlow is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated "Last updated" date.
